Kemal Gekic, a Croatian born American concert pianist, is a professor of piano performance and Artist in Residence at Florida International University in Miami, Florida. Gekic won prizes at many international piano competitions (F.Liszt in Parma, Italy, Viana Da Motta in Lisbon, Portugal), but it was after he earned his master's degree in 1985--the year of his appearance at the Chopin Competition in Warsaw, Poland, that marked a turning point in his career.
Following the 1985 Chopin International Piano Competition, Gekic performed a great number of solo concerts throughout the world and has played with many orchestras such as Warsaw Philharmonic, Royal Philharmonic of London, Japan Philharmonic Symphony, Leipzig Gewandhaus Symphony, Czech National Symphony Orchestra and others.
He has been lauded as a musical genius.
The 1pm master class and 3:30pm concert are free of charge and open to the public. These events are made possible by a generous grant from Women Supporting the Arts, a program of the Arts Foundation of Martin County, and the Jureit Musicales.
